Zygmunt Januszewski
ZYGMUNT JANUSZEWSKI

Born on the 17th February 1956 in Warsaw. Studied at the faculty of Graphics at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (1976-1981). His diploma work was a set of illustrations for G. G. Marquez novel Hundred Years Of Solitude with prof. Janusz Stanny as his tutor. Since 1982 he exhibited his works in more than 100 exhibitions in Poland and abraod. In 1989 he was the first and the only Polish artist ever to present his drawings at the solo exhibition "Ein Narr zeigt Flagge" in Wilhelm-Busch-Museum in Hanover. He designed posters for the Bielefeld Opera, Shauspiel in Bonn, Theatre and University in St. Gallen. Professor on the Od 2000 profesor in Internationale Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst in Salzburg. Since 2000. Since 2002 has teaches illustration at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Works as cartoonist, creates installations, also works as printmaker and writes poetry.

For his drawings and graphics, he obtained many awards and distinctions, among others: 1987 - Kaiserring-Stipendium, Mönchehaus Museum für Moderne Kunst, Goslar; 1990 - The award for the most beautiful book of the year founded by the Book Fundation in Frankfurt on Mein (Die schönsten deutschen Bücher, Stiftung Buchkunst) "Die rote Spur", 1996 - The award "Printer of the Year", Edinburgh, for his own book "Jeder ist ein Künstler. Zygmunt Januszewski. Kombinations-Kunst", Quensen Verlag; 2003 - The Victoria and Albert Museum Illustration Award for the book cover "Witness" for "The Guardian Review"; 2004 - The award The Society of Publication Design in New York for "Cruel Harvest" by Jonathan Raban for "The Guardian Review"; 2004 - Olaf - Gulbransson - Preis, Olaf Gulbransson Museum, Tegernsee, Bayern; 2006 - distinction in the 46th Competition "The Most Beautiful Books in 2005" for the illustration of "The Return of Muenchhausen" by Zygmunta Krzy¿anowski, PTWK Warsaw; 2007 - The Printing Award at the 8th International Exhibition The Art of the Book CZAS in Lodz.

Published his drawings among others in Der Standard, Die Presse, morgen Wiener Journal ; was, Literatur und Kritik, Danubius, Fremdsprache Deutsch, Sudeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit; Die Welt, Neue Zürcher Zeitung und NZZ-Folio, Nebelspalter, Du , Tages Anzeiger; The Guardian; Gazeta Wyborcza, Polityka ,Wprost, Rzeczpospolita, Couriere International, Le Monde.
